i am in the veterans class on Friday mornings and our teacher is very patient, caring and understanding of our differing ages (47 - 78)
We are taught kata and drills (no fighting) and it is catered to our specific abilities. This is done with respect and thoughtfulness.

I started training when I turned 63. You knew who I was at a glance. The nervous little granny in the corner of the dojo training with the 12 year olds. Then I was granted the opportunity to recruit for a new Veterans Group and the story unfolds from there. I am now almost 69, and even though I have had to take time out to help with family/my mum and so on, and have lost about 18 months of training, the desire and the enthusiasm for karate hasn't waned but increased. The older I get the more I learn and the more focussed and peaceful in my mind I become. Karate has been and will continue to be a way of life for me. The gifts I have been given through this art/sport are good friends for life, a superb confidence that goes deep, fitness beyond my expectations, and wonderful exercise for my brain. I cannot recommend karate highly enough. Our instructors are highly qualified, thorough, sensitive to an older person's abilities but hugely encouraging when it comes to say, the punchbag and putting in all you've got into the katas and drills. The Vets group is supportive and non-judgemental, we work as a team to help one another. Come along on a Friday 10 - 11am and watch and feel free to ask to join in. Fabulous!!!
