Karate, meaning empty hand, features punching, kicking, knee/elbow strikes and open handed techniques. However, grappling, joint manipulations, locks, restraints/traps, throws and vital point striking also appear in Karate. There are many components to modern Karate training, including forms and sparring. It is an art, sport and self-defense training. Weapons comprise another important training area, as well as the psychological elements incorporated into a proper attitude such as perseverance, fearlessness, virtue and leadership skills. The Family Martial Arts Center, which has been running in various national locations for decades, holds Karate classes in the Budokan and is a very highly regarded Karate club
Family Martial Arts Centre is a martial arts school offering karate classes in both Rotorua and Taumarunui, New Zealand for men, woman and children of all ages. Both clubs have been running for over 10 years. Our club is very successful in both international and national tournaments. We are a traditional family based martial arts club and are very focused on anti-bullying and character development programs that helps students develop their physical fitness, flexability, strength, discipline, focus, co-ordination, self confidence and self defence.
Grandmaster Hanshi Te Moana Te Rupe Inuhaere along with his daughter Kyoshi Natasha Inuhaere both founded Family Martial Arts Centre. Grandmaster Hanshi Te Moana Te Rupe Inuhaere was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 1997 and Kyoshi Natasha Inuhaere is currently being inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2017. Grandmaster Hanshi Te Moana Te Rupe Inuhaere is the creator of our style Gosoku Kai.
Kyoshi Natasha Inuhaere is our Chief Instructor for Family Martial Arts. She was won 4 world titles and has also won over 400 national and international titles. She was also Australian sportwoman of the year at age 15. Kyoshi runs both clubs in Rotorua and Taumarunui and is a known figure in the martial arts community both nationally and internationally.
