Founders and Instructors
Co-Founder and Honorary Members (and technical advisors) – Martin Hartman, 5th Dan and Cornelia Baumgartner, 4th Dan started Aikido in 1976, in Switzerland. Lead instructor is Mark Hardcastle.
Aikido is a non-competitive Japanese martial art based on the principles of harmony. The Nelson club is affiliated with the international Aikikai Hombu Dojo through Shihan

Martial Art Styles
The following Martial Arts Styles are offered at Nelson Aikido:
Programs & Class Schedule
Adult beginners classes are Wednesdays at 6pm. Teenagers classes Wednesday 5pm.
Kids classes* are Fridays 5pm (*only during school terms). - Generally 8 years and above for the kids classes. Fridays at 6pm have advanced, and by invitation classes.
If you wish to train, wear loose clothing; for example, track suit or training pants and a sweatshirt. Please try to arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled class time and introduce yourself to the instructor who is called “sensei”.
Better still, come along prepared to give Aikido a try. The first class you train in is free.
