Master Callum and the other instructors provide a great balance between the formal process of learning a serious martial art, while providing a fun atmosphere for the kids.
Our son always looks forward to his training days.

We have had our oldest child enrolled at the Upper Hutt Hapkido Academy for several years now, and have more recently enrolled another of our children. We have been very impressed with the professionalism of the club, and the training our children have received. We appreciate that Master Callum and his team tailor the programme to meet its younger members' needs, and that they are always willing to offer assistance with specific problems. We have noticed an increase in confidence in our children, and a reduction in issues to do with bullying at their school.
We are very pleased that we chose to invest our time and money in getting the children involved in hapkido, and feel very lucky that we have the Upper Hutt Hapkido Academy in our region.
I am over 65 years of age and started Hapkido around mid-2012 after roughly 20 years of inactivity. When I started I was really inflexible and I have a number injuries, both my knees have been operated on, a crushed L4 vertebra, the vertebra's between my shoulder blades started to fuse, I suffered from "frozen shoulders" on both arm and I have two stents in my heart.
It was really tough going especially in the beginning but I decided to hang in there. I am at the time of writing blue belt with double red tips and am about to grade for my red belt. There have been times when I was thinking of giving up but when discussing the issues with the instructors found that these are normal progression points along the way.
I believe that the Upper Hutt Hapkido Academy is the best in the country (but then I am biased) and I believe that the Academies greatest attribute is that they are willing to adapt techniques to suit the individuals abilities and for that I like to thank Master Callum Forbes for all the guidance he has provided for all the students at the Upper Hutt Hapkido Academy and I also like to give a huge thank you to all my instructors, regardless of their level, for their guidance and help.
